Regina Rooney, Ph.D.
Dr. Regina Rooney is a Senior Counselor with Hyde Park Communications, where she provides high level clinical and scientific communications counsel to pharmaceutical and medical companies.
Dr. Rooney was previously with Invitrogen where she was an R&D Manager and staff scientist developing products from inception through manufacturing. As R&D Technical Area Manager of the electrophoresis line of products, she managed research and development of one of the company's most lucrative business areas. Among the numerous products launched under her supervision were NuPAGE® Novex® Midi-Gels; XCell4SureLockTM Midi-Cell electrophoresis apparatus; NativePAGETM Novex® Bis-Tris Mini Gel System; the MagicMark® product line and the ZOOM® benchtop proteomics line of products. She invented the IPGRunnerTM which won most innovative product awards at Invitrogen and in San Diego County.
Dr. Rooney previously worked for Novex, which was later acquired by Invitrogen, as a senior scientist developing and evaluating new technologies for electrophoresis product development. While there, she was the project leader for the development of the ZOOM® IPG gel product and for molecular weight markers for direct detection on western blot analysis. She joined Novex from Nanogen, an electronic microchip-based technology company where, as a member of the microelectronics department, she provided the biological and chemical expertise for assay development for the defense department and the private sector.
In addition to numerous publications, Dr. Rooney has given presentations for groups such as the Human Proteomics Organization World Congress. She has also authored several patents during her academic and industrial career, covering methods for developing novel therapies for cancer, diabetes and CNS disorders and methods for biochemical analysis of macromolecules.
Dr. Rooney received her bachelor degree in the Department of Microbiology in 1984, and her doctorate in Biochemistry in 1990, both from the University of Wyoming.
