James F. Haggerty
James F. Haggerty, Senior Counselor to Hyde Park Communications and also President of the PR Consulting Group, part of the Hyde Park/PR Consulting Group, has more than fifteen years of experience in marketing, public relations and public affairs.
Mr. Haggerty has a national reputation in professional services marketing, public affairs and crisis and litigation communications. Over the years, he has been involved in some of the nation’s most high-profile court cases, employment and crisis communications matters—including the largest employment class action in history, the largest child custody and support case in history, and the historic Screen Actors Guild labor dispute against the commercial advertising industry. Ragan’s Media Relations Reports called him "one of the nation’s foremost experts in Litigation PR," and during the three months he represented Patricia Duff in her famed child custody case with billionaire Ronald Perelman, the New York Observer noted that his work "evened up the odds." He is the author of In the Court of Public Opinion: Winning Your Case with Public Relations, published by Wiley.
Jim has previously been President of James F. Haggerty & Associates, Inc., which merged with The PR Consulting Group in 1993. From 1997 to 1999, Jim also served as Senior Vice President and Director of New York Operations for The Kamber Group, then one of the largest independent public relations firms in the country. He has also worked in public affairs for the City of New York, and as a Special Assistant to U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. From 1997-2001, Jim also served as Executive Director of the International Lawyers Network (ILN), a worldwide federation of 75 law firms in 60 countries on six continents. As Executive Director, he oversaw recruiting, strategic positioning and business development for a network of more than 4,000 attorneys worldwide. During Jim’s tenure, the organization more than doubled in size, growing twice as fast as any similar legal association anywhere in the world.
Mr. Haggerty received a B.A. in Political Science and English Literature and Rhetoric from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and studied law at Fordham University and Stetson University in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is admitted to practice law in New York and Florida, and is a member of the Counselors Academy of the Public Relations Society of America, the New York City and New York State Bar Associations, and the Florida Bar. A frequent writer and lecturer on communications issues, Mr. Haggerty’s articles and other writings have appeared in The New York Times, The National Law Journal, and Law Practice Management.
