Heather McNamara

Senior Counselor

Heather Wurthman McNamara has more than fifteen years of experience in developing and managing national public education and social marketing programs. She currently oversees initiatives designed to increase recycling and sustainability for Keep America Beautiful and that State of Georgia.  This work involves a combination of broad campaigns as well as working with local recycling coordinators and other stakeholders in communities across the country to develop and implement effective local campaigns guided by measureable data.

Most recently Heather was a Senior Vice President at Hill & Knowlton.  During her tenure with H&K, Heather worked with a variety of brands including MCI, the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR® program, AmeriCorps, the U.S. Mint's Fifty State Quarters campaign, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the International Monetary Fund. Much of her experience has centered on behavior change, from motivating people to practice various environmentally friendly behaviors to convincing people to wear sunscreen or commit to volunteering.

Prior to working with H&K, Heather was an associate at Nelson Public Relations, where she managed the day-to-day communications activities for the W. K. Kellogg Foundation's Community Voices initiative, a $55 million philanthropic effort aimed at improving health care access and quality among the uninsured. In addition, she supported work on a 25 city road tour for the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation's Look Good, Feel Better cancer support program.  Previously, Heather was a member of the social marketing communications practice area at Ogilvy Public Relations where she worked on several national campaigns for federal agencies, including the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She also worked with a large pharmaceutical company that sponsored an educational coalition for women affected by osteoporosis.  The grassroots campaign successfully influenced the passage of legislation standardizing Medicare's coverage of bone mass measurement testing, the diagnostic tool for osteoporosis.

Heather graduated from the University of North Dakota with a bachelor's degree in public relations.
