Medicaid Makeover - Reforming the Health Care System’s Safety Net

Objective: Working with former HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson, Hyde Park Communications created a strategic communications program that would position Secretary Thompson as a leader in developing solutions to the challenges facing Medicaid, announce his plan for reforming the program and promote dialogue between target audiences, key opinion leaders and affected populations about the challenges facing states at various stages of Medicaid reform.

Strategy: Hyde Park Communications developed and implemented a listening tour where Secretary Thompson exchanged information with key stakeholders about the problems facing the Medicaid program. Based on those conversations, we helped develop Secretary Thompson's white paper: Medicaid Makeover: Four Challenges and Potential Solutions on the Road to Reform. The white paper was introduced at the National Governor's Association annual meeting and a comprehensive media outreach campaign was launched.

Results: Hyde Park was responsible for identifying the sites for the events, coordinating the program, securing speakers, ensuring speakers were trained, and conducting media relations for the events. The program resulted in more than 82 million media impressions, and meetings across the country with governors and state legislators interested in how Secretary Thompson's plan might be implemented in their states.
