"Born for Safety" Campaign Becomes National Effort to Reduce Electrical Accidents

Client: The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

Objective: Raise public awareness of the "Born for Safety" campaign, a national effort to protect children from electrical accidents.

Strategy: Generated awareness of the program by providing hospitals nationwide with more than four million electrical outlet safety cps in celebration of National Electrical Safety Month (May 2001). These caps were packaged in child safety kits along with general electrical safety information and home protection tips, and given out to families of newborn babies.

Results: Received substantial local television coverage including a story on Fox Morning News and a mention on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. "Born for Safety" also won the prestigious 2001 Gold Circle Award for Outstanding Public Education Campaign by the American Society of Association Executives.

"Born for Safety’ is a wonderful program that will provide parents of newborns with a simple, life-saving tool for their homes. I commend the National Electrical Contractors Association for partnering with hospitals across the country to provide this life-saving service."
